7 Days of BPA-Free Plastics: MAM Ultivent Bottles

Posted by Erin Behan

Oh plastic, so convenient, but lately we've been learning you are not always so healthy. Whether or not you've decided to keep your Nalgene, it makes sense to make sure your baby is feeding from a bottle that's as safe as possible. Sassy's MAM Ultivent bottles win on two counts: safety and price.

First and foremost, MAM Ultivent bottles have no bisphenol-A or polycarbonate (see why it's bad) and are shatterproof. They are made from baby-safe polypropylene. Secondly (and still importantly), they are affordable. The newborn five-ounce three-pack (with nipples) is $18.95 at Amazon; a nine-ounce three-pack (in either "boy" or "girl" colors) is just $11.99. Safe and cheap: Perfect!

My twins use these bottles and we're quite impressed with how well the bottles perform.  The only problem is that getting replacement nipples is a chore - shipping is cost-prohibitive.

If I buy the 3-pack w/ the 2 replacement nipples, add in cheapest shipping, I'm paying $30 which comes out to $10/bottle (yeah, w/out the nipples it would come to $8/bottle, but let's face it, we'll need the additional nipples, so $10/per is the practical cost).

I bet I can find something just as safe locally and for a more reasonable price.

Amazon has a three pack of 5 oz bottles w/ nipples for 11.99 with free super saver shipping.  What is different about the $11.99 pack vs. the newborn $18.95 three pack (w/ a shipping charge)?  Both seem to come with nipples, both are 5 oz BPA-free bottles...
