Inspired by pretty much every alien-themed B movie you'd care to mention, El Ultimo Grito's "Don't Run We Are Your Friends" lamp ($99 at Generate) has some wonderful functionality to match its quirky name and even quirkier UFO shape.

Depending on where you hang it, the light's intensity changes to match: Place it low, and it'll emit warm, soft ambience through its color shade. Move it closer to the ceiling, and it bathes the room in a brighter, more direct glow from the shade's bottom.

It's controlled via a corded foot switch, though, so unless your junior space traveler is coordinated enough not to trip over it, you may want to wait a few years to go all Mars Attacks! with the room decor. (Via Babygadget.)
