Quinny Curbb – $79.95
Another masculine entry into the baby carrier gang, the Quinny
Curbb is made by those same people who brought you the stylish strollers from
across the pond. This soft hip carrier is primarily for your larger baby that
can hold his head up and will enjoy the sidecar ride, but not too big as the
weight limit tops out at 20 lbs. So this carrier should be used for very specific
toting. Since there isn’t any neck support for baby, you shouldn’t take this
carrier out during nap time, or on a very long trek where he will inevitably
get sleepy and flop about.
Our tester had the best luck in doing household chores when
she was carrying her babe in the Curbb. But not chores that required a lot of
bending and lifting as that wasn't really possible with this carrier. But she was able to walk around while talking on the phone, get the mail and walk the dog. The
Curbb is very simple to prepare with only a few buckles to connect before you
or your spouse are ready to roll. As a one-piece operation, you circle the hip
strap around your hips, buckle it and pull it so it fits snugly, pop your
little one in and buckle in the shoulder and front seat clasp. The ease of use
was best demonstrated when our mom tester took her 12 lb baby in the Curbb to
the park. She described an easy transition out of the carrier into the swing
and back again.
The Curbb also keeps your baby very close to your body, which
all babywearing experts agree is an excellent benefit. However, our tester felt
it was perhaps a little too close given her above average bust size; sometimes
it felt like her babe was knocking into her tata’s, and not in a ‘give me food’
kind of way. While not a universal problem, still it is one to consider if you
find yourself in that category pre or post-birth. Or, since (as one of our
readers pointed out) buckles = manly, let your baby’s male role model carry him
about in this sleek and stylish carrier. - April Peveteaux
