The Babble Review: George Nelson Zoo Timer Clocks

Posted by Chris Ford

I mentioned in my post yesterday that some of my favorite things I've put in my girls' rooms have been things that I can imagine them taking to college with them someday. These wall clocks designed by the great George Nelson are one of those things.

Made by Vitra, these have been classics since the 1950s and they still don't disappoint. You can choose from four different animals, Omar the Owl, Elihu the Elephant, Fernando the Fish and Talulah the Toucan (pictured). The clock mechanisms themselves are not completely silent, but unless you've got the baby monitor cranked way up you won't notice a thing. I've got two of them and both of my girls love them - the littlest because it's an animal she can name, and the oldest because she can work on telling the time. They're not cheap, but they're gender neutral, modern classics you will have for many years to come.

$130, available lots of places, but Highbrowfurniture.com has Elihu the Elephant (which a lot of retailers don't).
