Parents Agree: Graco's iMonitor Stinks, Rules

Posted by Aaron Burgess

Graco iMonitor

If the Amazon.com customer reviews are any indication, the Graco Digital iMonitor ($59.99; or $89.99 for the deluxe, two-parent-unit version) is as wonderful a baby monitor as it isn't. Most of the complaints revolve around the monitor's rechargeable battery -- and, yeah, four hours' battery life isn't ideal if you're expecting to get a full night's sleep, although it's great if baby is napping and you want clear reception from within ranges analog monitors normally wouldn't cover (in this case, up to 2,000 feet away). And, yes, there's a docking station, so you're not bound to batteries alone.

The monitor's out-of-range alarm -- a beep that alerts you every time you lose the signal -- seems to have been designed by sadists, although it's ultimately a great feature. Even the critics agree, however, that the iMonitor offers some of the clearest reception they've ever heard in a baby monitor -- and if you've ever been kept awake by a crackling analog monitor, you'll know that pretty much trumps all other selling points.
