7 Days of Strollers: Quinny Zapp

Posted by aprilpeveteaux

Quinny strollers have been getting major style points with the Euros for a few years now, and this summer they arrived in the US. We got to see if the newest import lived up to the hype, or was a Bugaboo chasing knock-off. Good news! For those of us excited by style, affordability and space-saving; the Quinny Zapp holds its own in the design class of modern strollers.

The Zapp is the less expensive stroller in the Quinny family, but you’re still getting advanced features such as the oh-so-popular 360˚ turn, a quick step brake and vibrant color options. The Zapp should also fare well on your errand days: its compact size is store friendly (although we did wonder if the substantial wheels could pose a problem slipping into boutiques), the material is stain resistant for those grocery store mishaps and the weight of the stroller is distributed so that hanging your shopping bags on the handles won’t be a problem. We should note, that no stroller companies recommend hanging anything off the handles. But we know that you readers out there, just like those of us here at Babble, do the bag balance thing out of necessity, every now and then.

While the Zapp was a great match for our toddler testers, it does not have the full recline feature necessary for the littlest babies. However, the Maxi-Cosi Mico infant car seat fits into the Quinny, so if you want to purchase your car seat to go with your stroller, that option will allow you to slip your tiny tot in and out of the stroller with ease. And the Zapp folds up to the most compact size of any stroller we’ve ever laid eyes on, making travel with the squirmy ones relatively easy. Relatively, in that carrying hardware and an infant is never easy, unless you’re traveling with a staff. But at $239, the money you save could perhaps buy you a man servant to help out with those harrowing days of intense kiddo transport. Before you write in, it’s a joke. I know man servants go for much more these days.

Buy it from Amazon - $239

Do the handles extend so that taller folks don't have to bend over to push it?  I wish you guys had decided to have a standard list of things you were going to rate each stroller on, and then added comments on top of that!

we just got this stroller (actually two, one for each twin), and totally love it.  the compact fold is wonderful, you can actually stack 2 of these in the trunk of your car.  And bluestar, to your question - no the handles don't extend, but I find the higher and more comfortable than our previous peg perego aria stroller.

I've had a quinny zapp for about a year and a half now, and it's a great stroller.  no, the handles don't extend and my husband's not that tall and he complains that they're too low.  I also can't hang too much off the handles, but it's better than a maclaren in the tipping department.  It really is a great stroller in the sense that it turns on a dime, and it folds up so small, but they really should incorporate an attached strap (like the volo).  I've rigged something from an old shoulder strap, but it's not very elegant.  They give you a bag for it when you buy it, but really, who's going to carry around a bag just in case you want to fold it up?

Oh, this is weird.  I have a Canadian Zapp and it only has three wheels (the exact one in your Amazon link).  I love the stroller, have taken it all over Europe with ease, and receive compliments everywhere I go, but my big complaint was no storage basket.  It looks like the US version has fixed that?  Get this, though: mine was only $100 at Sears last Christmas!

The Buzz has three wheels and no storage basket. At least, here in the US.

Yeah, I know what the Buzz is like, and it's a totally different stroller. Check out the "Quinny Zapp" link here to the Amazon page.  That's my stroller.

You're right. If I check out Sears.ca, then Zapp does have only three wheels... weird.

We have this stroller for about 18 months now. While I do like it, I wouldn't have bought it had I known they'd improve it! So those in America get 4 wheels and a basket? UNFAIR!!! I'm an American living in Holland ours has 3 wheels and no basket and nothing you can buy that is compatible. What I hate more than anything is how tipsy it is though, you can't hang barely anything on it or it falls. I also think the hood attachment is rather crappy. It never stays in a proper shape at least for me.

I want the Stokke Xplory of the Orbit for our baby due next year. Sadly we're poor LOL I do think it's sick of so many Americans in the US to have such perfect euro strollers for cruising what, the mall? Where I live a stroller is transportation. I don't drive. I walk or bike so I need a stroller than can cart my groceries as well!

I had a big quinny with 4 wheels for my first child. I got a great deal on it for under 200 euro but it normally runs at least double that. It didn't fold well but it was massive and perfect for what I needed it for.
