4, yes 4 root canals, and 5 crowns. I too can relate to buying my denist a Porsche. I have since moved on to helping him purchase a vacation home. I go back in August for a 6 month check up. Oh the joy!

I did the exact same thing after I left home. I ended up with an $1800 dental bill after not having been to The Dentist in a decade or so. Love your blogs!

No, water in most parts of the US is flouridated, too. That's why people born before that was implemented have so many cavities and other problems.

I grew up in England too and moved to LA about 18 months ago. In England they put fluoride in the water, so people don't tend to need to take fluoride supplents. Maybe over here there is no fluoride in the water supply...

Here in England, dentists don't have flavoured stuff for children. I've never even heard of fluoride gel. My dentist's entire practise doesn't have a computer monitor, let alone a fancy screensaver for kids.

Then again, dental care is free! So er, I guess we're even.

My 5 yr old loves the dentist too. I wonder if his love will survive when he is 8 and the two adult lower teeth that are fused together begin to grow in. That should be fun.

Well, at least you got to wait till you were 29 to buy your dentists' Porche. Despite growing up in an almost totally sugar-free household, I managed to get a super-special gift from my parents: Teeth that crumbled in the back at age 22. Awesome. I don't even set foot in the door sans a Valium.

My son loves the dentist. Seriously. He gets excited and asks all the week before if that day is The Big Day, because oh boy! The dentist! Is fun!
