Band on the Diaper Run

Listen

 .

RIght now both kids are fast asleep, and I should be sleeping too.

We're practicing and getting everything ready for the record release and tour. In fact, if you want to hear the new record it's being streamed on myspace for a couple of days.

Magnolia found out we'll be doing a segment on Yo Gabba Gabba (a srange and awesome children's TV show) next week and she asked Jason, "Could I sing it with you guys one time?" Almost broke me heart that she won't be with us on this leg of tour.  It'd be a perfect thing for her to be involved in...but, there will be more I'm sure.  And, she'll get to finish off her last week of preschool instead. My mom will be watching her for our first 9 days of tour.  She has been babysitting all week while we practice with the new players.

Today, they found a carpet of flowers.  Magnolia has been teaching me plant names after spending so much time with gramma lately.  My mom rules.

But, enough shameless promotion and late night typings about my girls and my mom.  I'm seriously tired.  I'm at that midnight parental moment where you start freaking out about vaccines (four month appointment on Friday) and feeling guilty about leaving your children with babysitters for too long.  (Grammas are way more than just babysitters though.)

 Goodnight. Or, good morning.

I listened to the album 3 times today on myspace.  It is fantastic!  Can't wait to see these songs live in SF.

You continue to bring joy into my family with the news about Yo Gabba Gabba.  It's Elliott's favorite show (actually the only show he has any interest in at all) and we parents kinda dig it too.  We will be so excited to see you on there!

It’s your boy Brett (from Boston) and I can’t even wait for this Friday’s show in CT at Toad’s Place.  I’m making the over 2 hour trek down to CT and I know that the drive will be well worth it.  I’m bringing my camera as well so I’ll take more horrible pics and post them on my flickr account.   The new record... AMAZING!  I absolutely love it!  Good luck with your tour!

Yo Gabba Gabba really would be perfect for Magnolia to make an appearance on with you guys, but you're right, there will probably be something else like it down the road she can participate in! It'll be a fun experience for sure.

Hello,

Long time reader, first time commenter!  Firstly I have to say that I am beyond stoked to have found you for two reasons!  I used to watch you guys play at Koo's cafe in Santa Ana, CA back when it wasn't "the OC" great to see that you guys still kick major ass!  Your music is still rockin!  And secondly it's so great to read about your life as a parent!  I have a 4 year old myself and have found it extremely frustrating to have people judge me as a parent just because I choose to wear slip-on vans or when my daughter starts singing Johnny Cash!  ANYHOO just wanted to say hello!

*emy

PS

i love ygg just as much as my daughter!

Mates of State

Kori Gardner and Jason Hammel

Kori Gardner is the organ-playing half of the band Mates of State; her husband, Jason Hammel, plays drums. Known for their vocal harmonies and euphoric melodies, Mates of State has been described by critics as "unabashed joy", "honesty at its best", a "two piece with balls", and "a band that you must see live." Their daughter, Magnolia, was born in 2004 and started touring with the band at 10 weeks. June, their second girl, was born early this year. The whole family is touring the world right now.
