I need your help, people. This has been driving me nuts. My dear friend Viva gave me this great handmade alphabet blanket for the girls as a baby gift way back when. It's the kind of thing old ladies make and sell at a church bazaar, and incorporates no fewer than three (3) fabric arts techniques: crochet, cross-stitch and sewing.

The squares on the blanket feature the various letters of the alphabet, each cross-stitched with a letter (or several letters in some cases, to make it all fit) and an object that starts with that letter. So we've got, predictably, an apple for A, a flower for F, etc. Some are a little more unexpected: for N, it's numbers. For T it's -- well, I go back and forth over whether this is a train or a tractor, but I lean toward tractor:

But I cannot, for the life of me, figure out what the object next to "D" is. I have spent what surely amounts to hours staring at it while nursing the girls, trying to figure it out, but I'm still completely stumped. Dung beetle?  Dictionary? Dreidel? I'm sure one of you will get it, and it will suddenly seem obvious and I'll feel like a total idiot for not having seen it. But it will be worth it. Oh, how it will be worth it.

Here is the cross-stitched enigma of which I speak:

    Help!!
